The North Carolina Mountains are rich in historic, recreational and geological significance to our state.  With the highest mountain peak in the Eastern United States, the oldest river in North America, some of the oldest mountains in the world, the deepest gorge east of the Grand Canyon, the highest waterfall east of the Rockies and the two most visited National Parks in the country, the natural heritage of the North Carolina Mountains is surpassed by none.

At Grandfather Mountain students explore the mineral museum and the mountain animal habitat.  These educational programs here are topped off with a walk across the Mile High Swinging Bridge that gives a breath taking view of the Appalachian Mountains for miles.

Linville Caverns is a geological wonder of chemical processes that took place deep below the surface of the earth forming unusual formations.
